Cilia Neumann, born in 1977 in Freiburg, graduated with a M.A. in Chinese Studies and Anthropology. She wrote her Master’s thesis on “Chinese Footbinding” compared to other rites of initiation.

Since 2012, she is a Ph.D. student at the Department of History at the Albert-Ludwigs University Freiburg working on the project environmental alteration along the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia.

Her main fields of interest include the historical significance of rites of passage in hunter-gatherer-societies and in modern states, Qing-Dynasty and Society and the traditional Chinese family system with its patriarchal structure rooted in Confucian philosophy.

She is currently working on the rise of China’s environmental understanding and perception - in particular as related the use of water resources and China’s efforts in developing a sustainable energy production.

 

Cilia Neumann, 1977年出生于弗莱堡, 2011获得了汉学与人类学硕士学位, 其硕士论文专注于“中国式缠足”与其他类似仪式的比较研究.她现为弗来堡大学历史系博士生,论文研究内容中华人民共和国早期黄河上游沿线(内蒙古)的环境变迁, 她的研究兴趣包括狩猎社会男子成人礼的历史意义,清代社会和中国传统家庭系统在儒家思想下父权结构方面比较.以及中国环境意识的崛起,特别是水资源的利用和中国在可持续能源生产方面的努力。
