Around the Ruler: Comparative Analysis of Dynastic Centers in Europe and China

Description

At the centre of this research project is the comparison between Qing China and Europe in the Early Modern Period. Taking into account the approach of Norbert Elias in his work The Court Society, the function and functional change of the monarchical court (among other themes) will be examined in a comparative European-Chinese perspective. In this way, both structural similarities and differences, such as the recruitment of the dominant elite and the religious context of court ceremonial, can be systematically analysed.

The project is supported by the European Commission under the EU Framework Programme "European Research Area Network (ERANET)". This includes expanding research into the international sphere and also promoting research co-operation between Europe and China, or COREACH Programme ("Coordination of Research between Europe and China").
