Prof. Dr. Sabine Dabringhaus was born in 1962 in Freiburg, Germany. She studied Sinology, History and Political Science at the Albert-Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich. Between October 1987 and July 1990, she earned her PhD at the Institute of Qing-History (Qingshi Yanjiusuo) at the People’s University of China (Zhongguo Renmin Daxue) in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. After being employed as a researcher in the Department of History at Albert-Ludwig University (1991/1992) and participating in a field trip to the People’s Republic of China, she held a research position (C1) at the Institute for East Asian Studies (Sinology) at Ludwig-Maximilian University (Chair: Prof. Dr. Roderich Ptak). In January 2003, she completed her habilitation in Ludwig-Maximilian University. Subsequently, she held the position of a Junior Professor for Modern East Asian History at Albert-Ludwig University’s Department of History from December 2002 to December 2008. In December 2008, she assumed the newly established chair for Modern East Asian History.

Her research focuses on the Sino-Manchurian Qing Empire (1644–1911) in the context of comparative imperial history, court societies in Asia and Europe, nationalism in China during the twentieth century, the history of the Chinese humanities, Mao Zedong and the Communist revolution in China, the long-term political developments in the Chinese Republic (1912–1949), the cultural basis of Chinese modernity, the history of Central Asia (Tibet and Mongolia in particular), the history of Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia and the environmental history of China.

She is a member of the Directorial Board of the Center for Transcultural Asian Studies (CETRAS, founded in 2015) and the Center for Medicine and Society (ZMG, founded in 2016). Additionally, she assumed the role of Dean of Studies (Studiendekanin) of the 'Global Urban Health' Master’s Programme, which is launched under the auspices of ZMG. Furthermore, she is chairwoman of the Academic Advisory Board of the European Research Centre for Chinese Studies, Beijing; member of the scientific board of Walter Benjamin Kolleg of the University of Bern as well as of the two journals Historische Zeitschrift and the Journal of Chinese History.

Since October 2022, she has been a member of the Directorial Board of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and leads the Philosophy and History Cluster

达素彬 Sabine Dabringhaus 教授1962年出生于德国弗莱堡市。她曾在弗莱堡大学和慕尼黑大学修读汉学,历史学和政治学。 1987年10月与1990年7月之间,她在中国人民大学的清史研究所进行研究工作并获得博士学位。1991至1992年,她被聘为弗莱堡大学历史系研究员,之后也到中国实地考察。 她接着在慕尼黑大学东亚研究所获得了研究席位(C1)(教席: Roderich Ptak 教授)。 她于2003年1月在慕尼黑大学获取教授资格。2002年12月与2008年12月之间,她担任弗莱堡大学现代史与东亚史系的初级教授。 她于2008年12月就任新成立的东亚史教席。她的研究主要集中在帝国比较史框架下的中国满清帝国(1644–1911)、亚洲和欧洲的宫廷社会、20世纪中国的民族主义、中国人文史、毛泽东与中国的共产主义革命、中华民国(1912–1949)的长期政治发展、中国现代化的文化基础、中亚史(西藏和蒙古为焦点),以及东南亚海外华人史。
